Life Management...A Viewpoint

Managing one's life is the hardest task ever to exist. Managing life, in my opinion, means directing your life style towards the optimum path and being able to endure whatever difficulties deviating you from that optimum path.

Life management becomes a necessity when you feel that you’ve lost synchronization with the events cycle. Here you should stop to reorganize matters. Although, it should start from younger ages, knowing the right thing to do a little late doesn’t prevent you from doing it, whatever difficulties you may face.

Unfortunately, we haven’t been taught how to manage our lives. So it’s up to us to think of a style or a regime to follow for life management.

This is an approach for such a style. So helpful comments are welcomed.

Life Management as I see it, is linked to the following terms:

1- Time scheduling and organization.

We must treat time as the most precious thing we have, more precious than health. So a timetable of the day activities must be prepared in advance, in which you organize the tasks you have to do and evaluate the effectiveness of what you've achieved during the day. Overloading the timetable is better than relaxing it in the beginning. When you are used to following schedules, you can start relaxing the timetable to fit nicely into the time frame.

2- Priority sets.

Choosing which tasks to be performed must be categorized on a priority basis. Setting these priorities is based on a careful understanding of one needs and duties to perform. This is the most important thing to do in organizing your life. Choosing wrong priorities will waste your time, and you won't finish the tasks in time for they usage. A tradeoff between enthusiasm to do many things and constraints in the time domain available must be taken into consideration.

3- Long-term and short-term plans.

Tasks must be grouped to serve a well pre-planned goal. The long-term plans serve as a boundary limit. This is a fixed nonalterable deadline. The short-term plans are detailed and updateable time schedules.

4- Distinction between personal & business lives.

We must not be overwhelmed by work. The day is divided into halves. Most people do not well exploit the 2nd half of the day. This second half must be marked as personal. Tasks not necessarily aligned with our technical careers can be scheduled in this half. Of course, some time we sacrifice some of these personal properties for work. This helps building up larger experience and promotes technical personality especially when work needs this. But, you should not forget that you could benefit more effectively by reserving some time for yourself.

All of us have been forced to learn a prescribed syllabus during the course of regular education. But wasn't their something intriguing you, and you've always wished for enough time to get to know about it, even a technical subject.

Now is your chance to read and learn truly what appeals to you. No one is forcing you to study something specific, it's only your ambition to knowledge is what drives you.

Specialization is a key aspect of this age, but one disadvantage of this specialization is that it isolates everyone from a lot of other important knowledge domains, which are necessary for effective interaction with others and sound understanding of the way life goes.

5- Mental, physical & spiritual balances.

Balance between the constituent components of the human being is what brings us the feel of relief. Never think of sport as luxury, and never be far from God even if you make sins.

Scheduling the tasks must take into consideration the balance between all of the three aspects of a human being. The time for each of these must be respected.

6- Precise definition of leisure time.

Leisure time must be clearly defined and well used to achieve the aim of it in relief and relaxation. It must also be respected, the same as we respect the working hours. Setting the periods for leisure time in advance prevents you from being linked in meaningless activities and wasting your time.

7- Discarding all irrelevant time consuming/wasting activities

Life is not that easy, and many obstacles will arise to deviate you from achieving your goals. It’s up to the human persistence to fight back for attaining some value out of his life…only if he wishes so.

8- Social aspects and its importance

Among the tasks, there should be a respect for social interactions. You should not turn down a friend or a colleague because of your schedule and your timetable, when he/she is in need for your help or your advice.

9- Allocation of time for thought, evaluation & reorganization.

Reviewing and re-evaluating is important as a performance measure to the way you accomplish your goals. It discuses the reason for delays, mistiming and any punishments that may be conducted.

10- Reporting activities, thoughts & important events.

Reporting activities is the key for task analysis. Keeping a record of what you’ve done assists you evaluating your time usage… and your life…
